Nothing But Nets - www.nothingbutnets.net
Our Nets will be part of 500,000 Nets going to Africa!
Through the efforts of individuals, Sunday School classes, other church groups, and our entire congregation, Athens First United Methodist Church surpassed our goal of raising $10,000 for Nothing But Nets, a campaign to provide treated mosquito nets to African families in order to fight malaria. Our funds will be passed on to the Texas Annual Conference, then to the United Methodist Church, ultimately to be combined with funds from other churches , foundations, and corporations. Here’s the rest of OUR story.
The groundbreaking covenant partnership between the Texas and Cote d’Ivoire annual conferences of the United Methodist Church has yielded its first fruits – more than $1 million in donations from Texans to fight malaria in West Africa. More than 350 churches in our conference have already supported Nothing But Nets financially. The gift will buy more than 100,000 nets planned for distribution in Cote d’Ivoire in November as part of a national vaccination campaign. The distribution will include another 400,000 nets authorized by the United Nation Foundation through the Nothing But Nets fundraising campaign. The Texas Annual Conference has commissioned a team of 35 clergy and laity, representing all nine districts of the conference, to help distribute the nets.
Well done, good and faithful servants!
