Nursery and Preschool
The FUMC nursery is available each Sunday morning for the 8:30am Contemporary Service, during the 9:45am Sunday School hour, and for the Traditional Service at 10:50am. The program consists of arts and crafts and a storytime based on topics given in Service, modified for fun and hands-on learning.
Sunday School Classes
Children are our greatest blessings and we care for them at Athens First UMC. Childcare is available at all church events.
- On Sunday mornings, care is provided from 8:15-12:15 p.m. during both of our worship services and Sunday School. Children from infants through 5 years are welcome to stay.
- Our 8:30 a.m. worship service offers a short children's sermon for those in attendance.
- Sunday School classes are offered at 9:45 a.m. for ages 3 years through 5th grade. Classes for age 3 through 3rd grade meet in the Miller Children's Building. 4th & 5th grades meet in the Activities Building.
- Vacation Bible School is offered each summer for children in our church and community.
- Events are held throughout the year such as Easter Egg hunt, Christmas programs and parties, and special fun days.
- A Chime Choir for children in grades 2 through 6 meets every Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in the choir room.
- A Children's Choir for children in grades 2 through 6 meets every Wednesday at 4:45 p.m.
Super 6 Confirmation Class
Confirmation Class is for 6th graders in preparation for church membership. They spend 9 months studying "Claim the Name" a Cokesbury publication. The study includes the Bible, Church history, the sacraments, and Methodist beliefs. This class meets during the Sunday School hour in the second room on the right in the Activities Building.
They meet mainly on Sunday evening for activities such as retreats, lock-ins, trips to The Methodist Home, visit to a Jewish synagogue, and picnics and hiking. Mission projects include: collecting for the Food Pantry, planting flowers at church, adopting a needy family and Angel Tree child at Christmas, filling sacks for Meals on Wheels, making and sending Valentines to shut-in and nursing home residents, making Easter Baskets for the Food Pantry, raising money for Nothing But Nets, and purchasing a farm animal through Heifer Project International.Upcoming Schedule:
- November 2nd - Meet at Church & Plant Flowers (5:00pm to 6:30pm)
- November 9th - Picnic & Hiking at the Arboretum (5:00pm to 6:30pm)
- November 16th - Program at Church (5:00pm to 6:00pm
- November 23rd - Church Wide Thanksgiving Dinner
- December 7th - Shop for needy family and wrap gifts (5:00pm to 7:00pm)
- December 14th - Fill sacks for Meals on Wheels (5:00pm to 6:00pm)
